Many dog owners will have to travel at some point, and in many instances, they will not be able to take their dogs with them. These may be work or leisure excursions that require them to fly to their destinations. If they are unable to find friends or family to care for their canines (or pay a pet sitter), they will be forced to utilise a puppy kennel.Do you want to learn more? click here
I’ve used the puppy kennel a lot in the past for all of my dogs when I had to travel, and it’s not as terrible as it sounds. There are typically a lot of dogs there, so they won’t be alone. If I can’t get a pet sitter for a vacation, I’ll still utilise a dog kennel for my own pets.
However, not all dog boarding facilities are created equal, in my opinion. Do not just book your dog into the nearest or cheapest dog kennel in your region without first seeing it. Always pay a visit and insist on seeing the puppy kennel area, not just the reception area or the yard. The kennel area is typically hidden behind locked doors from the reception area, and you may not be given a tour unless you specifically request one.
You want to inspect the area where your dog will be spending its time and ensure that it is safe and tidy. You should also acquire a solid sense of the setting. I’ve gone to several institutions that, for whatever reason, refused to work with me. Personally, I don’t like for puppy kennels that aren’t linked to some kind of outside run. The facilities that do not have a direct link to an outside space for the dogs are no better than a cage in my opinion. I also don’t want to confine my dogs for a week. Unfortunately, most vet offices that also provide dog boarding facilities operate in this manner. Although it’s convenient to have veterinarians on hand, I believe that alternative puppy kennels with more puppies and outdoor access would be preferable.
Many puppy kennel facilities will have it set up so that dogs may go outdoors to an outside run and then return inside anytime they want, or at least at regular times. One of the things I look for in a dog kennel is this. Many offer separate sections for smaller and bigger dogs to help smaller breeds feel more at ease if they don’t like huge dogs.
For an extra fee, several dog kennels now provide planned playtime and trail walks. Some establishments may also provide grooming services. One of these dog boarding facilities even included a unique bone-shaped swimming pool.
If your dog has specific nutritional requirements, a good puppy kennel should be able to satisfy them. You may either bring your own dog food or they can provide it. My dogs are used to using a dog litter box, so we usually carry one with us and place it in a location that is big enough for the box to be placed within their kennel but far enough away from where they will sleep. In addition, all professionally managed establishments will need evidence of kennel cough vaccine. If they don’t, you shouldn’t utilise this service. You don’t want to leave your dog in an environment where other dogs may be affected.
